A guided tour of the historic center of Florence that will let you discover the most popular and lively places. This tour will start from Piazza della Repubblica, the ancient site of the city's foundation, where once stood the Roman forum of Florentia. During the Middle Ages this area became the seat of the most important market in the city, the so-called Old Market.
From here we will move to the district of San Lorenzo to visit the colorful San Lorenzo Central Market. The nineteenth-century building houses on the ground floor an incredible variety of foods: from the vegetable and fruit stalls to those of meat and fresh fish. But the real surprise is on the upper floor of the market, where from eight in the morning to midnight you can attend the express production of typical regional dishes of Italy proposed by many restaurateurs, as well as taste them as soon as they are cooked. The real Neapolitan pizza or the Sicilian 'arancino', the 'tortelli alla Maremmana' and fresh pasta, the Florentine 'bistecca' and the 'lampredotto' sandwich, just to give some examples.
Outside the market, among the stalls of craft products that animate the streets of the neighborhood, you will surely find the right souvenir to take home!
Continuing the visit among the Florentine squares and monuments we will discover the New Market (also called Mercato del Porcellino), specialized in leather crafts sale, and we will stop in one of the city's many 'vinaini', small informal places where the Florentines (and others) love to get together to eat a sandwich and accompany it to a good glass of wine.
